We have an exciting hike planned for March 8! There is a bit of driving, so let's try to carpool as much as possible.
Meet 9 am at Socorro Public School offices Saturday March 8th. We'll drive to Magdalena and then ~10 miles north toward the Alamo Reservation to pick up the dirt road that goes to a mile or so below the Bear Mountains ridgeline.
Because of the long drives, plan for most of the day, bring snacks, water, and as always, good shoes, layer clothing. And be ready for GREAT explorations of Socorro County that most of us have never seen!

About Hiking First
- Hiking First is an informal group that gets together for day hikes in the area around Socorro on Saturday mornings, typically on the first Saturday of each month. Generally, we meet at 9am at the Socorro Consolidated Schools office parking lot at 700 Franklin Street and then car pool to the trail head.
- Our hikes vary in difficulty, but most are easy to moderate, lasting no more than a few hours and covering six miles or less. Be sure to bring along appropriate clothing, boots, walking sticks, water, and snacks. Remember that it gets cooler at higher elevations (about 5 degrees per thousand feet.)
- Along the way, we get some great views from high places, as well as chances to see the history, archeology, geology, and wildlife of the area.
